Who we are
Optima was founded in 2006 as a digital solutions company. 20 years later we are still doing the same thing: designing, building and maintaining custom software for businesses that need something their off-the-shelf options cannot give them.
We are deliberately a mid-sized team. Large enough to staff a project properly and absorb someone taking leave; small enough that the people who scoped your system are the people who build it.
What we optimise for
Software that is still maintainable in year five. Most of our revenue comes from clients we have worked with for years, which aligns our incentives with yours. We are the ones who inherit any shortcut we take.
How we staff an engagement
- A dedicated project team, not a shared pool rotating between accounts
- Engineers, QA and a Scrum Master assigned for the life of the engagement
- Scaled up or down as the work requires, with continuity of the core team
- The people who scoped the system are the people who build it
How we work
Process, not promises
The parts of an engagement that determine whether it goes well are decided before any code is written.
Discovery first
Every engagement opens with a short discovery phase: process mapping, success criteria in measurable terms, and identifying the riskiest assumption. That assumption gets built first, not last.
Two-week increments
Sprints end with something that runs and that you can click. No phase of the project happens somewhere you cannot see it, and you have repository and board access from day one.
Review and QA gates
Every change is peer-reviewed before merge. Automated tests cover the parts that carry risk; dedicated QA covers the parts that automation handles badly. Staging mirrors production.
We stay after launch
Monitoring, incident response, dependency and security updates, and the steady stream of small changes every production system needs. We live with our own architectural decisions.
